Tooth Decay is a slow process resulting in dental cavities or dental caries. Decay takes place when plaque, the sticky substance that forms on teeth, combines with the sugars or starch of the food we eat. Bacteria, acid, food debris and saliva combine in the mouth to form a sticky substance called plaque that bonds to the teeth. This may even cause infections or tooth loss if not treated properly.
The best way to prevent tooth decay is brushing twice a day, flossing daily and going to your regular dental check-ups. Eating healthy foods and avoiding snacks and drinks that are high in sugar are also ways to prevent decay.

It is a good idea to regularly visit a dentist to help prevent plaque and cavities. The main symptom of tooth decay is pain. Pain worsens if you drink hot or cold beverages or breathe in cold air. Severe tooth decay can cause abscesses in the gums. If you have some of the above symptoms, then it is a good idea to visit Dr. Matar.
